Trincomalee overview

The name doesn’t exactly run off the tongue with ease but this Sri Lankan city is primarily focused on its harbour and port activities. Trincomalee has an unusual location on the tip of a peninsula, which is used as a division for its outer and inner harbours. Tourists enjoy a wide range of attractions and activities, with whale watching and diving on offer off the coast, while keen surfers will enjoy the waves closer to the shore. A selection of old Dutch forts and hot springs make up the local landmarks and the city was a hub of helpful activity after the 2004 tsunami hit as it handled the majority of aid coming into the country.
