Sri Lanka overview

Sri Lanka Travel Guide
Sri Lanka is slowly rebuilding after the Boxing Day tsunami of 2004, which, coupled with ongoing civil war and the economic meltdown, has made for a difficult few years for the island nation. But beneath the crises lies a wealth of cultural history, stunning scenery and an ethnic melting pot of welcoming people, which has placed Sri Lanka firmly back on the list of blossoming tourist destinations. Beach lovers and wildlife enthusiasts will find hundreds of miles of white sand and green jungle to sate their urges, while adventure water sports such as scuba diving, whale watching, rafting and kayaking surround the tear-shaped country. Remnants of Dutch and English rule are evident in Sri Lanka’s superb colonial architecture which sits alongside ancient temples and quaint villages. The historic Cultural Triangle contains five UNESCO World Heritage sites and the weather is ideal all year round.
